Ingredients

  • 4 slices Bread (sourdough or ciabatta)
  • 4 slices Sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 medium Apple (preferably Honeycrisp or Fuji), thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons Butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon Honey
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 0.5 cup Arugula (optional, for added freshness)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your panini press or a large skillet over medium heat.

Step 2

In a small bowl, mix the honey and Dijon mustard to create a spread.

Step 3

Take two slices of bread and spread a thin layer of the honey-mustard mixture on one side of each slice.

Step 4

On one slice of bread (on the honey-mustard side), layer 2 slices of sharp cheddar cheese, followed by a few thin slices of apple, and a handful of arugula if using. Top with another slice of bread, honey-mustard side facing inward. Repeat for the second sandwich.

Step 5

Lightly butter the outside of each sandwich, spreading evenly to ensure a golden crust.

Step 6

Place the sandwiches in the preheated panini press or skillet. If using a skillet, press down gently with a spatula or another heavy pan to imitate the press effect.

Step 7

Cook for 2-3 minutes per side, or until the bread is golden brown and crispy, and the cheese is melted.

Step 8

Remove the paninis from the heat, let them cool slightly, then slice in half and serve warm.
