Ingredients

  • 4 pounds Country-style pork ribs
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Onion powder
  • 1 cup Apple cider
  • 0.25 cup Bourbon
  • 0.5 cup Barbecue sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon Apple cider vinegar
  • 1 medium, peeled and sliced Apple
  • 1 medium, sliced Yellow onion

Directions

Step 1

Season the pork ribs on all sides with salt, black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder.

Step 2

In a large skillet over medium-high heat, sear the ribs for 2-3 minutes per side until browned. This step is optional but adds depth of flavor.

Step 3

Place the sliced apple and onion in the bottom of the slow cooker to act as a flavorful bed for the ribs.

Step 4

In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the apple cider, bourbon, barbecue sauce, brown sugar, Dijon mustard, and apple cider vinegar.

Step 5

Place the seared ribs on top of the apple and onion in the slow cooker. Pour the bourbon-apple cider mixture over the ribs, making sure they're evenly coated.

Step 6

Cover and cook on low for 7 hours, or until the ribs are tender and easily pull apart with a fork.

Step 7

Once cooked, remove the ribs from the slow cooker and tent them with foil to keep warm. Strain the cooking liquid to remove the apple and onion slices if desired.

Step 8

Optional: Transfer the strained cooking liquid to a small saucepan and simmer over medium heat until it thickens into a glaze-like consistency, about 8-10 minutes.

Step 9

Brush the glaze over the ribs before serving, or serve it on the side as a dipping sauce.

Step 10

Serve hot with your favorite sides, such as mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables, or coleslaw.
