Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ground beef
  • 1 medium Granny Smith apple
  • 4 slices Sharp cheddar cheese
  • 0.25 cup Breadcrumbs
  • 1 large Egg
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 4 pieces Brioche or burger buns
  • 2 tablespoons Butter
  • 4 pieces Lettuce leaves
  • 0.25 cup Mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard

Directions

Step 1

Peel, core, and finely grate the Granny Smith apple. Set aside.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, grated apple, breadcrumbs, egg, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix gently with your hands until just combined, being careful not to overmix.

Step 3

Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape them into burger patties about 3/4 inch thick.

Step 4

Heat a skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat. Add 1 tablespoon of butter and let it melt.

Step 5

Cook the burger patties for 4-5 minutes on each side, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C). During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty to melt.

Step 6

While the burgers cook, split the burger buns and lightly toast them in a separate skillet or under a broiler with the remaining tablespoon of butter.

Step 7

In a small bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise and Dijon mustard to create a tangy burger sauce.

Step 8

Assemble the burgers: Spread the mayo-mustard sauce on the bottom half of each toasted bun. Add a lettuce leaf, the apple-cheddar burger patty, and the top bun.

Step 9

Serve immediately and enjoy!
