Ingredients

  • 4 medium potatoes
  • 0.5 cup green peas
  • 1 teaspoon ginger
  • 2 small green chilies
  • 0.25 cup coriander leaves
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon amchur (dried mango powder)
  • 0.5 cup breadcrumbs
  • 3 tablespoons oil
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Directions

Step 1

Boil the potatoes in a large pot until they are fork-tender. Drain and let them cool slightly.

Step 2

Meanwhile, boil or steam the green peas until they are soft, then mash them lightly with a fork.

Step 3

Peel the cooled potatoes and mash them in a large bowl until smooth.

Step 4

Finely chop the ginger, green chilies, and coriander leaves. Add them to the mashed potatoes along with the mashed peas.

Step 5

Add cumin powder, coriander powder, salt, red chili powder, amchur, and breadcrumbs to the potato mixture. Mix everything thoroughly until well combined.

Step 6

Add lemon juice and mix again. The mixture should be firm enough to hold its shape.

Step 7

Divide the mixture into equal portions and shape each portion into patties or tikkis.

Step 8

Heat oil in a non-stick pan over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, place the tikkis in the pan.

Step 9

Cook the tikkis on each side until they are golden brown and crispy, about 4-5 minutes per side.

Step 10

Remove the tikkis from the pan and drain them on paper towels to remove excess oil.

Step 11

Serve the hot aloo tikkis with mint chutney and tamarind chutney, or enjoy them as a snack on their own.
