Ingredients

  • 0.75 cups Milk
  • 4 tablespoons Butter
  • 1 large Eggs
  • 3 cups Bread flour
  • 0.25 cups Sugar
  • 0.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 1 teaspoons Ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoons Ground nutmeg
  • 2.25 teaspoons Active dry yeast
  • 0.5 cups Raisins
  • 1 cups Powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Milk (for glaze)
  • 0.5 teaspoons Vanilla extract

Directions

Step 1

Add the ingredients to your bread machine in the order recommended by the manufacturer: milk, butter (cut into small pieces), egg, bread flour, sugar, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and active dry yeast.

Step 2

Start the dough cycle on your bread machine and let it complete. Add the raisins during the machine's mix-in phase (or when the machine beeps indicating mix-ins).

Step 3

Once the dough cycle is finished, remove the dough and place it on a lightly floured surface.

Step 4

Divide the dough into 12 equal portions and shape each into a round ball.

Step 5

Place the dough balls onto a greased or parchment-lined baking tray, leaving a little space between each bun for rising.

Step 6

Cover the buns loosely with plastic wrap or a clean kitchen towel and let them rise in a warm place for about 30-45 minutes, or until doubled in size.

Step 7

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 8

Using a sharp knife or kitchen scissors, score a cross on the top of each bun.

Step 9

Bake the buns for 15-20 minutes, or until they are golden brown and sound hollow when tapped on the bottom.

Step 10

While the buns are cooling, make the icing for the cross by mixing the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract into a thick, pipeable glaze.

Step 11

Once the buns are completely cool, pipe the icing over the scored cross on each bun.

Step 12

Serve and enjoy your homemade ABM Hot Cross Buns!
